About Rooken
Rooken is a Danish one-person company with a single purpose: giving small businesses and individuals the basic IT security that larger organisations have a whole department for.
The story
Rooken grew out of a simple observation: most security products are built for companies with IT departments. The language is technical, and the responsibility for interpreting alerts sits with an administrator who does not exist in a four-person business.
At the same time, the break-ins that hit small businesses are rarely advanced. They come through a firewall that was switched off, a remote access left open, or a backup that had stopped running. Things Windows itself can handle, if someone notices they are off.
Argos is the first product built on that observation: an inspection that speaks plainly, prioritises honestly and always follows a warning with a concrete action. More products will follow as they can be built properly.
Rooken is one person, not a "we" with an open-plan office. That means short decision paths and direct answers, and it means we would rather do one thing properly than five things halfway.
Why "Rooken"?
The name comes from the rook, the tower in chess. The rook is the piece without tricks: it stands on the back rank, covers the whole file, and is the piece you castle behind when the king needs safety. It rarely wins the game alone, but you often lose it without it.
That is exactly the role Rooken wants with a small business: the immovable, boring, reliable guard on the back rank, for those who do not have the staff to stand guard themselves. Not the flashiest product in the room. The one still standing when it counts.
Three promises
- We speak so you can act
- Every warning explains what it means and what to do. If we cannot explain it in plain language, the warning is not finished.
- We only promise what we can keep
- Argos is a supplement to your existing protection, not a replacement. Boundaries like that are printed large, not hidden in a footnote.
- Your data is yours
